The most common mistake is trying to fit a paragraph onto a disc the size of a coin. Short outlasts clever. A few formats that consistently work:

- A single word in the recipient's own language
Two rules: check the spelling twice, because engraving is permanent, and read it out loud before you send it. If it sounds forced spoken, it will look forced on steel.
Which watch for which person
For a daily wearer who dresses up occasionally
